Dr. Tim Pearce and Dr. Ken Ratcliffe founded Chemostrat in 1994. The company’s main aim was to provide a professional, petroleum industry-orientated chemostratigraphic service. Over the past 20 years Chemostrat has built an unrivaled understanding of analytical technology and interpretation of geochemical datasets. Our key staff have strong research experience in the fields of sedimentary geochemistry, modern stratigraphic methodologies and sediment provenance, allowing us to develop a complete chemostratigraphy service from laboratory to wellsite.
Chemostrat has completed projects worldwide for many of the major oil companies, placing us at the forefront of the chemostratigraphy market. Our project work illustrates the versatility of chemostratigraphy, with the technique being successfully implemented through the geological record (Pre-Cambrian to Paleocene) and, a variety of different depositional settings.
The cornerstone of our work remains characterization and correlation projects using elemental data from ICP or XRF analyses. However, reflecting our in-house capabilities we also offer a full range of mineralogical, isotopic and sedimentological correlation tools. By combining these techniques with elemental data, we are able to supply a solution to almost any correlation problem and therefore possess the resources to provide an integrated stratigraphic service to the petroleum industry.
Chemostrat have established a series of analytical labs in Houston, UK, Canada and Perth that provide state of the art geochemical, mineralogical, TOC and isotopic data for stratigraphic correlation, provenance studies and to provide data for shale optimization.
In 2001 Chemostrat along with our partners established LaserStrat®; the world’s first wellsite chemostratigraphy service. Over the next 10 years Chemostrat were involved in over 50 wellsite deployments in the North Sea, Middle East, North Africa, Canada, Brazil and in the Caspian Sea. These jobs involved geosteering, picking casing and coring points and calling TD.
Chemostrat have now established an independent wellsite chemostratigraphy service (Chemostrat Wellsite) to provide real time, post wellsite and offsite core store analytical services in North America, Europe and Australia.
